Bumpdate 33 weeks!!

How far along: 33 weeks!

Baby Size: Head to heel Baby G is measuring between 17.2 – 18.7 inches long and weighs between 4.2 – 5.8 pounds.  She is about the size of a durian fruit, or if you’re like me and have absolutely no idea what a durian fruit is…she is also being compared to the size of a pineapple.  Baby G is keeping her eyes open while she is awake and she is also starting to coordinate breathing with sucking and swallowing.  The brain development continues…that’s one smart babyJ

Maternity Clothes: Yes!!  I’m loving the Old Navy skirt and tanks that I recently bought, especially with the warmer weather.

Sleep: Sleep is rough; plain and simple! I am up often throughout the night…sometimes for a bathroom trip and sometimes to just get more comfortable.  Rolling over is tough and my hips hurt, a lot.

Gender: A sweet little GIRL!

Movement: Oh yes, this weekend she gave me two of the hardest kicks I’ve felt throughout the pregnancy.  It made me laugh out loud both times; I can’t believe how strong she is.  She enjoys stretching out and shoving her feet into my rib cage, not the most comfortable for me.

Best moment this week:  Monday we visited our friends D & A; they welcomed their first baby early Sunday morning.  A baby girlJ  She is so sweet and we both enjoyed some baby snuggles for a couple of hours, she is a peanut and weighed in at just over 6 lbs.

Looking forward to: Andy putting in the window air conditioners, it’s getting hot and it is tough for me to cool down once I get really warm.

Food cravings: WATERMELON!!  It is in season and delicious, I ate some this weekend, enjoyed a bowl this morning and am going to stop to buy one on my way home!  So yummy and refreshing!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Not sick but I cannot stand the smell of garlic.  And still a little bit of nauseous on and off.

Labor Signs:  Nope!

What I miss: Sleeping through the night, blue cheese & brie, walking 10 steps without getting winded and a nice glass of chilled rose wine.

Symptoms: PREGNANT!!  With the change in temperature I am beginning to experience the famous puffy feet and fingers.
I am clumsy and bump into things often, am very tired, tough to breathe at times, trouble getting up (I need help), heartburn and just a general feeling of discomfort.

Nursery:  It is coming along; the crib is a nice addition to the room.  The next step is to put her wall decal up and to paint and put up her bookshelves.  I am looking for baskets for the armoire and downstairs changing table; hopefully I can find them by the beginning of June.

Wedding rings on or off: Wedding set is OFFL  My fingers are just a little too puffy, I can get it on but it is tight and I do not want to get it stuck.  So I am now wearing the ring I got for our anniversary as it fits a little better.

Mood: Good, tired but good!

With love,

Mrs. G

My baby sister got married - recap (a little late)

On May 17th my baby sister got married, the final of my parents three daughters got married.  We enjoyed a beautiful weekend celebrating love and marriage!  This day was extra special as it was my first, and a lot of people that attended first, time attending a same sex wedding.  The state of Minnesota began allowing same sex marriages last August, it was wonderful to celebrate this historic change with my sister and her fiance.

The celebrating started on Thursday with my sister A and her fiance S hosting a pizza party for all out of town guests that wanted to attend.  We enjoyed pizza and salad and for those people not prego...some drinks!  I enjoyed a sprite and some water with my underage niece and nephew:)

Friday morning I packed all my stuff up for the weekend, it is incredible how much you need to get ready for a wedding, and headed for St. Paul with my older sister and niece for a fun morning of manis and pedis!  There were 12 of us that enjoyed a girly morning of pampering along with yummy pastries and mimosas (again for everyone else).  After getting our nails and toes done we all went to Minneapolis for lunch and to check into our suites, my sisters and I stayed together and S stayed with her bridesmaids and a couple of friends in another suite.  We all stayed at the Minneapolis Hotel, it is very nice and our lunch at Restaurant Max was delish!  After lunch and settling in to our suite I had the chance to lay down and rest my feet for about 45 minutes, it was so nice!  Once I was rested and refreshed we all got ready for the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, we were able to quickly run through the basics of the wedding as it was at a restaurant that is open on Friday evenings for happy hour.  It was pretty simple but nice to be able to visualize how Saturday was going to flow.
Rehearsal dinner was catered by a friend of the couple and it was so good!!  It was BBQ pulled pork, potato salad, pasta salad, strawberry salad, beans and chips...everything was homemade!!  For dessert we had mini cheesecakes and chocolate covered strawberries...OMG, delicious!
My sister and S presented all of the wedding party members with their gifts, they were so generous.  Each of the 4 bridesmaids (2 on each side) received a monogrammed makeup bag with a monogrammed set of brushes, a monogrammed coffee cup and our jewelry to wear for the wedding.  They also presented my mother and S' mother with a beautiful handkerchief that was embroidered with a wonderful saying on them.  Both mothers cried, of course.  Everything wrapped up about 9pm and we all headed back to the hotel to try to get a good nights sleep, of course we ran into a group of family members in the lobby of the hotel and got roped into having a drink in the bar before going upstairs.  I found a chair, ordered a ginger ale and rested until the group was ready.  We got back to our room at about 10:30pm and all washed up and got ready for bed.  I was on the list to be first for hair and makeup so my alarm was set for 7:20am Saturday morning.

Saturday morning came quickly for me as I did not sleep well, mostly due to pregnancy related stuff.  I took a long, hot shower and just tried to relax as I knew that the day would be very long.  My favorite people were helping us get ready and taking photos!  Heidi was doing hair and Katie was doing makeup...these two women are incredible!!  They did hair and makeup for my wedding as well and they make everyone feel so beautiful and do a great job.  April from Sophisticated Grace Photography was taking photos for A & S, I went to high school with her and she did the photos for our wedding...she is amazing and it was great to see her!  She is so good that she convinced the manager of the hotel to allow A & S to have their "first look" on the rooftop of the hotel!  I don't know how she did it but she did.
My hair and makeup was done by about 9am and I loved the way both turned out.  The bride was second and she looked incredible as well.  The morning went by so quickly, there was so much hustle and bustle...and all of a sudden it was time to get dressed and get my sister in her dress!  And to clear up any questions, both A and S wore dresses.  They both chose gorgeous gowns and looked beautiful, here are a couple of pics.

After their "first look" we began family and wedding party photos, it was great to see everyone looking their best.  Not only were my older sister and I bridesmaids but my husband, brother in law and niece & nephew were in the wedding party...so we were all dressed up!  Here are some of the photos from the day, I definitely want to give credit again to April of Sophisticated Grace Photography.  Her pictures are incredible!!

Pictures were taken at the St. Anthony Main area near the Mississippi River as well as downtown Minneapolis at the government center.  I cannot wait to see the remainder of the pictures as I know she got some fantastic shots!

Once we were done with pictures we all went back to the hotel to have a snack and rest a little, I found a comfortable chair and rested my feet.

The wedding was at 6pm, both wedding and reception were held at the same location.  Around 5:40pm we walked through the skyway to the ceremony, we stayed upstairs until just before 6pm; it was fun to peak over and see all of our family and friends waiting for everything to start.

The ceremony was beautiful, it was performed by a friend of the family and she did a great job.  It was personal, full of love and only 30 minutes:)

After the ceremony the party started, they had great music, heavy
hors d'oeuvres and an overall wonderful celebration.  The picture below was taken as A & S listened to the various speeches throughout the night, I think it is beautiful.  I also included another cool picture a friend took.

It was wonderful to have so many family members and friends travel from all over to celebrate this couple.  We took the opportunity to take a picture of all of our cousins as a lot of them were able to attend.

The night wrapped up around 12:30am and my feet were absolutely done!  Mr. G and I walked back to the hotel and collapsed into bed.  It was a beautiful day and I don't think that it could have gone any better.

Sunday we enjoyed lunch with some family members and the newlyweds, after lunch we went home and took a nap...close to 2 hours.  I was tired!  The newlyweds enjoyed a 7 day honeymoon in Sint Maarten, I have seen some of their pictures and it looked incredible.

Another family wedding in the books...it was a wonderful weekend!

With love,

Mrs. G

Bumpdate 32 weeks!

How far along: 32 weeks!

Baby Size: Head to heel Baby G is measuring between 15.2 – 16.7 inches long and weighs between 2.5 – 3.8 pounds.  She is about the size of a squash.  Baby G has fingernails & toenails along with real hair…although we won’t know how much until she arrives.

I should be gaining about a pound a week, which is helping her pack on the pounds.  Within the next 7 weeks she will gain a third to half of her birth weight.

Maternity Clothes: Of course!

Sleep: Sleep is difficult; I am up often throughout the night…sometimes for a bathroom trip and sometimes to just get more comfortable.  Rolling over is tough and my hips often hurt during the night.  Dr. said there is not much to be done at this point; just have to try to get comfy.

Gender: A sweet little GIRL!

Movement: Yes but definitely on her own time, she will not move unless she really feels like it.  She reacts to my activity levels, if I am busy and moving around a lot or stressed at all she is very quiet.  However when I am relaxed and quiet she rolls around and kicks quite a bit.

Best moment this week:  We had an amazing weekend, my sister A & her partner S got married!  They had a beautiful day and it was a wonderful celebration.

And…the crib is up and it looks so cute!!  I cannot wait to continue the decoratingJ

Looking forward to: We are going to visit both sets of parents’ lake places the next two weekends, sort of a last visit to the lake before baby.  I’m looking forward to relaxing and enjoying the weekends, and really looking forward to seeing my parent’s new place.

Food cravings: My orange juice craving has slowed down a bit and been replaced with apple juice, toast with butter, steak and ice cream!!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Not sick but I cannot stand the smell of garlic.  And still a little bit of nauseous on and off.

Labor Signs:  Nope, I had an appointment this morning and all is well.  She is continuing to measure about a week ahead.

What I miss: Continue to miss…sleeping through the night, blue cheese & brie, walking 10 steps without getting winded and a nice glass of chilled rose wine.

Symptoms: PREGNANT!!  I’m sort of teasing but I am definitely feeling prego these days; I am clumsy and bump into things often, get very tired easily, slight swelling after a day of being on my feet, tough to breathe at times, trouble getting up (I need help), a little bit of heartburn and just a general feeling of discomfort.  I feel very blessed to have had a great pregnancy so far and I am still feeling pretty good so I am very thankful.

Nursery:  It is coming along; the crib is definitely a nice addition to the room.  The next step is to put her wall decal up and to paint and put up her bookshelves.  I am looking for baskets for the armoire and downstairs changing table; hopefully I can find them by the beginning of June.

Wedding rings on or off: Wedding set is ON!

Mood: Good, tired but good!

Bumpdate 31 weeks!

How far along: 31 weeks!

Baby Size: Head to heel Baby G is measuring over 16 inches long and weighs approximately 3 1/3 pounds.  She is about the size of a pineapple.  A fun coincidence, Mr. G & I chose her “going home” outfit and it has little pineapples on it.  It is very cute!  She continues going through major brain, nerve and eye development.  All five of her senses are now working.  She is able to move her head from side to side and her arms and legs are getting pudgier as she gains fat.

Maternity Clothes: Oh yes!

Sleep: Sleep is difficult; I am up quite often throughout the night…sometimes for a bathroom trip and sometimes to just get more comfortable.  Rolling over is tough and my hips often hurt during the night.

Gender: A sweet little GIRL!

Movement: Oh yes!  She definitely reacts to my activity levels, if I am busy and moving around a lot or stressed at all she is very quiet.  However when I am relaxed and quiet she rolls around and kicks quite a bit, like right now!  She has the hiccups.

Best moment this week:  Touring the Mother Baby Center of the hospital, it was a very nice facility that made Mr. G and I feel very comfortable.  We are officially preregistered…whoa!!

We also completed our baby preparation class on Saturday; it was very helpful and made both of us feel a little better about labor & delivery as well as bringing her home.

Looking forward to: Baby G’s Aunties A (my baby sister) & S get married on Saturday!!!!  It is a very busy week for our family!

And her crib will be delivered and put together on FridayJ

Food cravings: Orange juice, toast with butter, steak and ice cream!!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Not sick but I cannot stand the smell of garlic.  And still a little bit of nauseous on and off.

Labor Signs:  Nope!  I am experiencing Braxton Hicks contractions periodically, they are perfectly normal during this stage in pregnancy.  They go away when I slow down and relax.

Nursery:  Her nursery continues to be a work in progress, I have measured the armoire and changing table for the baskets and am going to try to find them in the coming two weeks.  That way I can start to wash her clothing and get stuff put away.  Her crib will be delivered and assembled hopefully FridayJ

Wedding rings on or off: Wedding set is ON!

Mood: Great!

With love,

Mrs. G

Bumpdate 30 weeks!

How far along: 30 weeks!

Baby Size: Head to heel Baby G is measuring about 15.7 inches long and weighs almost 3 pounds.  She is about the size of a cucumber.  Her eyesight continues to develop and she is able to open her eyes but they stay closed for a good part of the day.  Her skin in getting smoother and her brain is continually developing essential brain tissue.  And my favorite this week…her hands are strong enough to grasp our fingers.

Maternity Clothes: Oh yes!

Sleep: Sleep continues to be more and more difficult, rolling over is tough and my hips and back often hurt during the night.  Trips to the restroom are averaging 2-3 times.

Gender: A sweet little GIRL!

Movement: Oh yes!  She rolls around and kicks throughout the day, I took a nap on Sunday and Mr. G was able to feel her kick while I was asleep as he had his arm over my belly.

Yesterday during my 30 week appointment Baby G made Dr. J chase her around in order to get her heartbeat on the Doppler.  The doctor could feel her moving around and kept losing the heartbeat, she was finally able to get a decent reading and was quite amused with Baby G’s tricks.

Best moment this week:  Celebrating our first anniversary with a wonderful weekend and incredible evening out Sunday night!

Looking forward to: We are touring another hospital tonight, I am really excited to see the Mother Baby Center…I’ve heard it is really nice!  This hospital will likely be our first choice.  And our house is almost done, the painter is trying to finish up the living room and dining room…once that is complete we will hopefully be done for a while!

Food cravings: Orange juice, toast with butter and steak…not any red meat, steak!  And ice cream!!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Not sick but I cannot stand the smell of garlic.  And due to Baby G crowding my digestive system I have had some return of nauseous, just a little bit but Dr. J said that it is normal as the baby gets bigger and squishes stuff.

Labor Signs:  Nope!  I am experiencing Braxton Hicks contractions periodically, it is an intense tightening sensation I get in my belly, they are perfectly normal during this stage in a pregnancy (I spoke to the doctor about it yesterday).  It goes away when I slow down and relax.

What I miss: I am missing quite a bit this week…sleeping through the night, blue cheese & brie, walking 10 steps without getting winded and a nice glass of chilled rose wine.

Symptoms: Growing bump, very tired easily, slight swelling after a day of being on my feet, tough to breathe at times (she is squishing my lungs), a little bit of heartburn and just a general feeling of discomfort.  I am still feeling pretty good and am very thankful for a great pregnancy so far.

Nursery:  Her nursery is a work in progress, the armoire has been moved and I hung some of her clothing up…I love the way it looks in there.  We love the grey rug and the wall decal is absolutely adorable!  Her crib will be delivered and assembled in the next couple of weeksJ

Wedding rings on or off: Wedding set is ON!

Mood: Great!

With love,

Mrs. G

Our first wedding anniversary!

This weekend Mr. G and I celebrated our first anniversary as husband and wife!  Thankfully the weather in Minneapolis was beautiful and we were so thankful to be able to get outside and enjoy it.
Before I get to the details of our weekend I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite pictures from our day, it was the most amazing day of my life and I wouldn't change anything!  I told Mr. G on Saturday that if it weren't for the expense I would totally do it again...and exactly the same way!

Originally we had researched taking a short trip for our anniversary, however Mr. G recently started a new job and with the prices of airfare right now we decided that we would be responsible and spend the weekend in Minneapolis.  Honestly I am so glad we did, it was a great weekend.

On Saturday morning Mr. G had to work for a little while so I rested in bed and waited for him to get home.  We decided to get some lunch at Turtle Bread and it was well worth it.  We both enjoyed a grilled cheese sandwich, I had chips with mine and Mr. G had fries.  While waiting for our food I sampled the pumpkin bar and let me tell you...AMAZING!  So I couldn't resist, I had to have one.

This pic was taken after I had enjoyed about half of it, I took just a little less than half of it home and ate it on Sunday.  After lunch we ran errands, we went to Menard's to pick up paint for our living room and dining room and stopped at the grocery store.  Saturday night I made spaghetti for dinner and we spent a quiet evening at home, it was really nice.

Sunday (our anniversary, May 4th) we enjoyed breakfast at home and I am sure you are thinking, "oh was it breakfast in bed?"  Nope, we have been working on getting our house fixed after we had some water damage this winter and the last thing is to have the living room and dining room painted.  Our painter called and said he could start Sunday if we were open to it, we jumped at the chance to have him start.  So instead of having a romantic breakfast with my husband, I made pancakes and bacon for myself, my husband and our painter Kevin.  It was not a big deal, Mr. G and I laughed about it.
After breakfast Mr. G and I went to church, we love our church and it felt great to be there on our anniversary.  I teared up a few times, I was so happy to be celebrating our first anniversary and anticipating the arrival of our first child.  We went home to have lunch and pack a bag as we were staying downtown Minneapolis Sunday night.  We left our painter to lock up and decided to get outside and enjoy the weather.  What a better way to do that then a nice walk across the Stone Arch Bridge and enjoy the view of St. Anthony Falls.  It was windy but it was beautiful and there were so many people out.  I even took the time to take a couple of photos.

Obviously it was windy...look at my hair, yikes!  I absolutely love the Stone Arch Bridge and the St. Anthony Falls area, it is beautiful and always bustling with people.  There are great restaurants and is just a fun area in Minneapolis.  After our walk we checked into our hotel, we stayed at the Le Meridian Chambers Hotel, and because it was our anniversary they upgraded us and put us in a suite.  It was a very nice room, the shower was incredible!  I just love big fancy showers and have a dream bathroom with a beautiful shower in my mind...it will happen one day.  The bed was so comfortable, Mr. G and I enjoyed a 45 minute nap and we both felt refreshed after.

Sunday evening we had dinner reservations at Capital Grille, it is a romantic and very nice steakhouse in Minneapolis.  There was a red rose on the table and the manager of the restaurant brought over a glass of champagne for Mr. G and a ginger ale in a champagne glass for me.  Our dinner was fantastic!  We started with salads, I had the special of mixed greens, fuji apple slices, hazelnuts and dried prosciutto tossed in a yummy vinaigrette.  It was supposed to have goat cheese on it but I left it off due to the pregnancy.  Mr. G had the house wedge salad, it looked so good!  I love wedge salads but because I cannot have blue cheese I haven't ordered one since getting pregnant.  For our main course I enjoyed a 10 oz filet mignon and Mr. G enjoyed a 22 oz delmonico steak, I'm not exactly sure what cut that is but it looked good.  We shared the Capital Grille au gratin potatoes, asparagus and roasted mushrooms; all three were delicious.  We both had leftover steak and had leftovers of each of the sides.  Short side note...David our waiter was fantastic and we would request him if we were to go again.  After dinner, David said that the pastry chef was preparing a special anniversary dessert for us.  We were thrilled and knew if the dessert was as good as dinner we were in for a treat and boy were we right!

The dessert was a trio of delectable desserts.  In the top left corner was the homemade ricotta cheesecake with a creme brulee like top, it was smooth & creamy and delicious.  In the bottom left corner were the mixed berries with a strawberry sauce, it was a great compliment to the other two desserts.  In the top right corner was my favorite...the flourless chocolate cake.  It was a dense chocolate cake with a raspberry sauce drizzled over it, to say it was delectable is an understatement.  The "Happy Anniversary" was also made of chocolate.  Our dinner, the service and the romance made for a perfect evening.  If you are looking for a place to have a nice dinner for a special occasion I would highly recommend Capital Grille.  Here is a picture of us after dinner:)

After dinner we retired to our room and enjoyed the remainder of the evening together.

Monday we were both sort of working, we had intended to take PTO but since we were in town we both put in a few hours of work from home.  It was nice just being together but we were still working.

I guess I should tell you what I received for our first anniversary, I was blessed with a beautiful sapphire ring with white sapphires around it.  We saw it at a jewelry store while browsing one day a while back and I loved it.  Mr. G remembered and went back to purchase it for our anniversary!!
I purchased a very nice desk clock for Mr. G, it has his name engraved on it and has two pens with it.  I read that clocks have become a new tradition for 1st anniversaries instead of paper and since he recently started a new job I thought that a nice desk clock was the right decision.  He has been working for this company for 3 months and when he has been there 6 months he will get an office, I envision the clock sitting on his desk in his office.

Our anniversary weekend was perfect, I couldn't have asked for better.  We spent the weekend together and that was all I wanted.  Like I told my husband, I look forward to many many many more years together!!  I'm blessed to have a wonderful man like he is.

With love,

Mrs. G
