The Difference between Men & Women, Wedding Photos Edition

Yesterday our wedding photos arrived in the mail; I was like a giddy school girl and could not wait to look at the 1100 photos of our wedding day.

In my mind, these photos would bring back some of the funny stories of the day and the emotional moments that make my heart swell each time I think of them.

To Mr. G, it just meant that he had to sit down and look at wedding pictures, 1100 wedding pictures!  That’s not completely true, he was really excited to see them but he is a guy.

So, I popped open a bottle of champagne and we toasted to our wedding pics using our new, gorgeous toasting flutes.  What proceeded to occur is likely what a good number of couples have experienced while looking at wedding pictures…the differences between men & women.

I clicked from picture to picture exclaiming how beautiful they were and told my new husband stories of what was happening in the pic, if he happened to not be in that picture.  My eyes welled up with tears a number of times and my heart beat faster just like the day I married the man of my dreams.  I mentally picked out pictures I wanted to frame and pictures we could potentially use for our thank you cards, I even went as far as thinking of what picture would hang proudly on the wall of my parents’ home.

My husband, sat quietly looking at the photos and at times glanced at his cell phone…he gave some feedback on some of the pics and others said, “oh, I like that one”.  What got him the most excited you may ask, well that was a picture of the two of us in the sanctuary of our church enjoying a moment to ourselves.  The photographer snapped a picture and a shadow of a candle is on my dress, when he saw the pic he exclaimed “That shadow looks like a wiener!!”  Yep, my man of a husband picked out the shadow that looked like…well, you know.  He is correct, it does look like “that” and I did laugh when I saw it but what made me shake my head was the incredible difference between men & women.

We both love our wedding photos and will cherish them forever, I know he loves them just as much as I do but the clear differences in how we reacted are now comical.  Last night my emotions got the best of me when I looked at my husband and said “Don’t you like them as much as I do?”  God bless him for not rolling his eyes at me.

I will post some additional pictures soon but here is a great one of us with our wedding party, we were lucky enough to snap a pic while the Lake Harriet trolley was going by.

Thank you to April Klein at Sophisticated Grace photography, she was incredible the day of our wedding and before!  We were blessed to have her as our photographer, from the moment she walked in that morning until she said goodbye at the end of our day I knew she was the right choice to photograph our big day!  Check her out.

With love,
Mrs. G

Saul:)

As you probably gathered, Mr. G and I recently returned from our honeymoon.  We spent 8 wonderful days in the quiet and quaint town of Pompano Beach, Florida.

First let me say, we loved it….the town was exactly what we wanted for a honeymoon.  Our resort was located between the Intracoastal Waterway and the ocean; we enjoyed the beach and the pool at our resort as well as caught up on rest and enjoyed our first week as a married couple.

When I say this town was quiet I mean everything shuts down around 9:30pm every single night!  There were about 2 places to go after 9:30pm; one was an old pub and the other was the only nicer restaurant in this town…that was until we found Frank’s Ristorante. (Yes I assure you that is how they spell it)

We stumbled upon Frank’s one night while we were going to check out the pub, when I saw the little tables on the patio, aka the sidewalk, and the cute inside I told Mr. G that we just had to come back!  So the next night we got a little dressed up and headed to Frank’s, an Italian restaurant.

At first our waiter was Joe, a younger guy that seemed really nice and was very informative about the menu and specials.  Well, about 10 minutes after we arrived Joe informed us that Saul was going to be taking care of us instead because Joe had 3 tables and Saul only had 1.  This should have been my first clue.

Saul shuffled over to our table with the bottle of wine we had chosen earlier; when he spoke to us the first time I almost melted.  He was the cutest little old Italian man that had the most adorable smile and spoke to us in broken English about the menu and let me tell you he could pour wine like no one’s business.  I thought for sure the wine was going to be everywhere seeing as how fast he poured the glasses, he didn’t get a drop on the white table cloth!  This wine lover was impressed, and a bit smitten if I must admit.

We ordered our entrees which we read came with a salad and bread, both of which came quite quickly and were very good.  Our entrees took quite a bit longer, but where did we have to be?  Absolutely nowhere, we were enjoying our honeymoon.

After dinner Mr. G and I had finished the bottle of Chianti and were looking around, Saul was nowhere to be found.  I would get quick glimpses of him inside the restaurant but he never came outside.  We started to talk about how cute this little old man was and how most people would have been upset about the pace of the service, not us though, we began to giggle.  By the time Saul came back to our table we were in a fit of giggles, had texted our entire family telling them about our waiter and how much we liked him.

We decided to order an after dinner drink, I ordered a baileys and coffee while Mr. G stuck with the Chianti.  10 minutes goes by and a young lady brings out my coffee, I asked if she had my Bailey’s and she looked confused.  Moments later Saul shuffled out with my baileys and a big smile on his face.  How could I be mad at that face?

We enjoyed our drinks and continued to giggle and talk about how cute and slow Saul was.  Once our bill was delivered I asked Saul if we could take a picture, he thought I meant of my husband and I.  When I said “No, a picture of you and I.” his response was perfect, “I never say no”.

I’m sure Saul will never read this but just in case….Saul, you provided my new husband and me with an evening we will never forget.  It wasn’t about the food or the speed of the service it was your gentle nature and adorable smile that made our night.  Meeting you was a pleasure and will be a great memory from our honeymoon that we will cherish.

With love,

Mrs. G

Our first post!

Mr. G and I have talked about starting a blog for a while, for a number of different reasons, here are just a few:

1.      We always seem to meet and see the most interesting people while out and about. (Typically we see a couple deciding it’s a really good idea to have a make out session in public, it’s crazy how often this happens to us.)

2.      My new husband has a tendency to strike up a conversation with strangers and eventually hears their entire life story, sometimes funny….sometimes not so much. (Like the time he met the convicted felon on a plane to Naples, FL.  This guy was a major drug dealer and had just been released after 4 years from a prison in upstate New York.)

3.      Our home in Minneapolis is almost 100 years old; while this house has character, beautiful hard wood floors and gorgeous built ins, it also comes with “the critters”.  Yep, we have battled bats (my husband has had rabies shots after being bitten), gray squirrels, flying squirrels, mice and really pesky birds.  Just to name a few.  Don’t get me started on the plumbing issues we have had!  There is always a story coming out of this house.  But no matter what, this house is where we call home.

4.      We both come from incredibly entertaining families (sorry guys, we love you!) and often times they get themselves into quite interesting situations.  (Like the time my younger sister decided to get hit in the head with a softball, she is okay, but simply texted the entire family a picture of her in the ER with a softball sized lump on her forehead.  Caption “I’m okay”….my mom wasn’t amused)

5.      Mr. G and I are newlyweds and I know that this new territory will come with its share of fun, hilarious, serious, and embarrassing moments and who knows what else.  So why not share that with the world right?!

The list of reasons to document parts of our lives could go on for a while, but we think this will be a fun way to get our memories down on paper to share with all of you.

Buckle up and enjoy the ride!

With love,

Mrs. G

PS.  Stay tuned for my next post about the old Italian waiter Saul we met on our honeymoon, he was adorable!  And Mr. G will pop in to tell you about getting our sailboat in the water, there is always a story thereJ
